It is important that you make a choice based on what interests you. By understanding computer softwares will not make you a good editor.
Life is tough for beginners. Initially you may not even get a stipend. so food and travel should be organised by yourself for th 1st few months
So lets assume you are keen on a career in editing this booming industry. Lets go step by step.
Firstly, if its editing that attracts you. then join an editing course . there are many institutes beyond FTII, like Digital academy, Whistling Woods, MET, XIC etc.
You might want to do a course in advance editing equipment like SMOKE etc. to get even better opportunities as Visual F/x is the next big thing.
You could also join some film society. These societies show you acclaimed films from across the world. Join IDPA(Indian documentaries film Assn). they regularly run shows of such films. Seeing world cinema will open up yr thought process. See old / new Indian classics. Repeat movies that you like and understand them.
Once you have done a course in editing then it will be easier for you to get a job as an assistant editor or somwe junior post in a channel. You could connect with tv channels in Mumbai. The job market is slow presently but will look up soon.
To find channel, select channels in the ‘view category’ list in the resource search bar. Similarly to find editing studios choose editing studios in the ‘view category’ list in the resource search bar.
